New World Powers

October 20, 2018 – In early 2018, the Secretary of Defense General James Mattis announced a new national defense strategy. The strategy is marked shift away from countering terror to managing emerging global threats. The defense strategy focuses on addressing growing power competition from Russia and China. The theme of the Global Security Forum this year is “New World Powers”. New World Powers discusses how the global order is shifting towards a multilateral power balance and how the emergence of these new powers affects U.S. leadership and preparedness in the face of emerging global threats.
