“A kidnapping victim is a commodity” – Jere Van Dyk
In 2008, investigative journalist Jere Van Dyk was kidnapped and imprisoned for 45 days by the Taliban. He spent roughly one thousand and eighty hours in an ominously dark 12-by-12 cell. To this day the details of his release are unclear, no prisoners were exchanged and it’s not known whether or not a ransom was paid. “All he knows is that he made it home,” (NPR).
What Van Dyk uncovered on his return was not just the story of his own abduction, but a highly sophisticated, and lucrative, network of kidnapping operations that finance terrorist organizations all over the world.
On Thursday June 7, Dan Haar (Associate Editor at Hearst Connecticut Media) joins Jere Van Dyk for an in-depth conversation about this stock exchange of human life. Discussion followed by book sale and signing.
