CTWAC Celebrates 100 Years on April 19 in East Hartford
April 17, 2024 | Hartford, CT – The World Affairs Council of Connecticut (CTWAC) ANNOUNCES that William J. Burns, Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, will be the keynote speaker at its Centennial Celebration on April 19, 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Goodwin University in East Hartford. Director Burns, the first career diplomat to serve as CIA Director, brings unparalleled expertise and insight to this milestone event. The conversation with Director Burns will be moderated by esteemed journalist Norah O’Donnell, Anchor and Managing Editor of CBS Evening News.

A distinguished diplomat, Director Burns has served under six U.S. Presidents and Administrations, earning acclaim for his contributions to diplomacy and intelligence. Notably, he was promoted to Cabinet rank by President Biden in June 2023, underscoring his exceptional leadership in international affairs. His extensive experience includes pivotal roles as U.S. Ambassador to Russia and Jordan, as well as serving as Deputy Secretary of State.
The Centennial Celebration will feature an opening global reception featuring global cuisines, signature cocktails, and a few surprises, followed by the evening’s program with an inspiring lineup of awards and presentations. Attendees will have the opportunity to gain invaluable insights from Director Burns and other influential voices in our nation. CTWAC will also honor the legacies of Chairman Peter G. Kelly, Paul W. Bucha, Medal of Honor Recipient, and all past Presidents of the organization.
