Power & Leadership: Projection v. Protection

September 28, 2019 – Many concede that the United States has constantly been the leading international superpower since the end of World War II; however, that point is being contested today. As other nations become powerful enough to challenge US authority or smaller nations utilize irregular tactics, such as maximizing cyberweaponry to punch above their weight, we see a shift in the global pecking order.

What is the cause of the shifting power dynamics in the 21st century? A variety of factors, including geopolitics, cyber capabilities, and military posture, engineer our world order. The shifting ways in which global power is exerted, extended and withdrawn will further define the future security landscape of our world. In two words: Projection vs. Protection.
