Lunch is served and program commences at 12:00pm. \nAmbassador Diego Gómez Pickering was appointed as Consul General of Mexico to New York City in June of 2016. He is a career diplomat as well as a writer and journalist. Prior to his arrival in New York he served as Ambassador of Mexico to the United Kingdom\, from 2013 to 2016; as well as Director for Foreign Media for President Enrique Peña Nieto’s office from 2012 to 2013. \nPhyllis Yaffe was announced as Canada’s Consul General in New York in July 2016. She has had a distinguished career in both the private and not-for-profit sectors. Ms. Yaffe has served as chair of the board of Cineplex Entertainment\, lead director of Torstar Corporation and as a member of the boards of Lionsgate Entertainment and Blue Ant Media. A former board member of Astral Media\, for many years she served as a senior officer\, and ultimately as chief executive officer\, of Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc. \nDr. Zhao Yumin\, Deputy Consul General of China in New York\, assumed the office in July 2017. Dr. Zhao has served in the Foreign Service of China for 22 years. He spent eight years in U.S. Affairs desk in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China. Before his post in New York\, he also served in Houston as Deputy Consul General from 2014\, and the Republic of Korea\, Suriname and Auckland\, New Zealand before 2006. Dr. Zhao Graduated from Foreign Affairs University\, Beijing\, China\, with a Ph.D. in International Relations. He is married with a son. \nModerated by: Dan Haar\, Hearst Connecticut Media\nDan Haar is columnist and associate editor at Hearst Connecticut Media\, focusing on the intersection of business\, economics and politics.  Prior to joining Hearst in 2017\, Dan was at the Hartford Courant for more than three decades as a photographer\, reporter\, business editor and columnist. Prior to this\, he held many high-ranking positions both within the Italian government and abroad. In particular\, he specialized in European and transatlantic affairs during his years at the Italian Representation to the European Union and at the Commission. Formerly Ambassador to Belgrade\, before that he served\, as a young diplomat\, in Budapest during the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact and the Soviet Union.\nWhile Diplomatic Advisor to the Presidents of the Council of Ministers Enrico Letta and Matteo Renzi\, and Deputy Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the Republic\, Giorgio Napolitano\, he handled some of the most delicate international dossiers\, with a particular focus on security issues. Melanie spent 10 years in Asia\, working for The Wall Street Journal Asia in Hong Kong and\, prior to that\, for a division of Time-Life Books in Tokyo. She received the 2001 Mary Morgan Hewett Award for Women in Journalism from the Friends of the East-West Center in Honolulu.\nJack David\,\nSenior Fellow of the Hudson Institute; former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Combating Weapons of Mass Destruction and Negotiations Policy (2004 – 2006); Co-Chair of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s Senior Defense Group on Proliferation. From 2002 to 2004\, Jack served as United States Chairman of the Permanent Joint Board on Defense\, Canada-US\, to which he was appointed by President Bush. Jack was awarded the Secretary of Defense Outstanding Public Service Award.\nTerence Roehrig\, Ph.D.\,\nProfessor of National Security Affairs\, Director of the Asia-Pacific Studies Group\, U.S. Naval War College.  Terence has been a Research Fellow at the Kennedy School at Harvard University in the International Security Program and the Project on Managing the Atom and a past President of the Association of Korean Political Studies.  He has published several books and will be publishing the forthcoming book entitled Japan\, South Korea\, and the U.S. Nuclear Umbrella: Extended Deterrence and Nuclear Weapons in the Post-Cold War World with Columbia University.  He has published numerous articles and book chapters on Korean and East Asian security issues\, North Korea’s nuclear weapons program\, the Northern Limit Line dispute\, the South Korean Navy\, deterrence\, the U.S.-South Korea alliance\, human rights\, and transitional justice. \nReception to follow event.
