At the same time\, U.S. relations with Europe are strained\, with some saying that the souring transatlantic relationship could jeopardize the future of global democracy. \nAs these issues come to a head\, we are thrilled to be joined by H.E. Ambassador Ahlin most recently served as Sweden's Ambassador to Canada. Prior to that\, he was a member of the Swedish Parliament\, representing the Social Democratic Party. Following the 2014 parliamentary election\, Ambassador Ahlin was elected Speaker of the Swedish Parliament\, Sveriges Riksdag\, for the period 2014-2018. Ambassador Ahlin first became a member of Parliament in 1994. Since then\, he has worked on foreign policy in numerous capacities. He was Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs between 2002 and 2006\, and later Deputy Chair from 2006 to 2014. He has also been a member of the War Delegation\, the Swedish Defence Commission\, and a member of the Committee on European Affairs. \nAs part of his work for the Social Democratic Party\, Ambassador Ahlin served as the party’s Foreign Policy Spokesperson and has also been a member of the party’s Executive Board. In addition\, Ambassador Ahlin is one of the founding members of the first pan-European think-tank\, the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR)\, which was established in 2007. Ambassador Ahlin is a teacher and graduated from the University of Karlstad with a Master of Science. She has also had a long career in assisting and founding a variety of arts and educationally focused nonprofits.  Until 2013 she was the Executive Director of the World Affairs Council of Connecticut and is currently President of the Board of the Community Foundation for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Over the years Felicity has published articles and poetry in various chapbooks and publications. This year her five book science fiction series Until This Last will be published by a small UK publisher. Ashok Mirpuri | Ambassador of Singapore to the U.S. \nMr. Ashok Kumar Mirpuri took up his appointment as Singapore’s Ambassador to the United States of America (USA) in July 2012. Prior to his current appointment\, he served as Ambassador to Indonesia from 2006 to 2012\, High Commissioner to Malaysia from 2002 to 2006 and High Commissioner to Australia from 2000 to 2002. \nA career diplomat\, Mr Mirpuri joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in 1984. In 1994\, he was appointed Director of MFA’s Policy Planning & Analysis Directorate I (Southeast Asia). In 1997\, Mr Mirpuri was seconded to Shell International Ltd in the United Kingdom as Corporate Advisor (Asia Pacific). He was subsequently assigned to the Singapore Embassy in Jakarta in 1998 as Minister-Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission\, having previously served in Jakarta as First Secretary (Political). \nMr Mirpuri graduated with an honours degree from the National University of Singapore. He received his MA at the University of London’s School of Oriental & African Studies under a Raffles Scholarship.
