SUMMARY:Through the Lens of Iason Athanasiadis
DESCRIPTION:Iason Athanasiadis is an international photojournalist\, documentary filmmaker\, and a 2008 Harvard Nieman Fellow. While covering the contentious 2009 elections in Iran\, he was imprisoned in Iran’s Evin prison. He has written for Newsweek\, Al Jazeera\, the Financial Times\, The Guardian and more\, covering the most pressing crises and issues across the Middle East\, including the 2009 Iranian elections\, the 2010 Afghan surge\, the Greek Economic Crisis\, and the 2011 Arab Spring. The past 5 years he has spent working with the United Nations on humanitarian and aftermath reporting across the Middle East\, highlighting “how international crises affect the lives of ordinary people.” \nOn March 8th\, he will be visiting Connecticut in conversation with Dean Miller\, Senior Vice President of Content at CPBN discussing his experiences working as an international journalist\, his imprisonment in Iran\, and his current work documenting the shifting political landscape of the Middle East from the suffering of refugees in Northern Iraq to chronicling the first free elections in Libya following the 2011 revolution. \nThe event will feature a screening of a short documentary\, followed by a conversation between Athanasiadis and CPBN’s Senior VP of Content Dean Miller. Audience Q&A and light reception of treats from Blue State Coffee to end evening! \nIncludes Free Parking in a secure lot.\nFor any questions\, please don’t hesitate to contact Amanda Jolly\, World Affairs Council Programs Manager at ajolly@ctwac.org or (860) 724-2953.
