His life in inseparably connected with the Polish history and Poland’s way to freedom. \n\nHis believe in the idea of solidarity and commitment to freedom was recognised by the global community in 1983 when he was awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize. On 22 December 1990 Wałęsa was elected the president of free Poland. During his presidency and after it he remained actively engaged in the public life\, being the advocate of Poland around the world. \nToday Lech Wałęsa continues his mission of promoting the idea of solidarity. Traveling around the world\, he speaks about Poland’s bloodless transition towards peace and democracy as a role model for different nations. Through lectures and dialogue he calls for a world based on universal values. Being a supporter of globalisation and seeing the great potential of modern technologies and global development\, he promotes ways of peaceful cooperation between the nations in the 21st century.

Previous Model UN experience preferred. DESCRIPTION:CLICK HERE TO REGISTER\nJoin WACCT in a workshop series for educators focusing on Climate Change\, which remains top priorities in the international community and intersects with prominent social issues like poverty\, development\, and globalization. The aim of the Global Challenges and Innovations Workshop Series is to provide teachers with the materials and tools they need to foster an investigative classroom in accordance with the Connecticut Social Studies Frameworks. \nWorkshop: 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM $35 at-the-door ($30 online). This program will include: a keynote speaker\, collaborative sessions\, development of inquiry-based lessons\, integration of resources and evidence\, innovative solutions\, and taking informed action to address global health concerns and climate change issues. Lunch will be provided for participants of the workshop and there will be an evening program free of charge following the workshop. \nThis program is hosted by the World Affairs Council of America and sponsored by the Connecticut State Department of Education in collaboration with the Connecticut Council for the Social Studies and the Connecticut Geographical Alliance.
