SUMMARY:Working Towards a Sustainable Future: An Interactive Roundtable Discussion on the Role of Sustainable Development Goals
DESCRIPTION:Join the World Affairs Council of CT and a panel of experts for an interactive roundtable discussion on sustainable economic development\, with a special emphasis on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With the Paris Climate Change conference set for November\, it is critical that we begin having our own conversations on the importance of a sustainable future. This discussion is meant to be open and interactive. Our speakers encourage meaningful conversation and questions! \nYou are more than welcome to bring lunch with you to enjoy during the interactive round-table discussion. The discussion will take place in the Meeting Room of the Noah Webster Library in West Hartford. Validated parking available in the Isham Garage. \nOur Speakers: \nJohn Meyers\, Managing Director – North America\, Swisscontact\nJohn will frame the SDGs\, or Global Goals\, in the context of his extensive experience in administering global market-driven development initiatives. He will examine the content of the SDGs as well as how nations can use these goals as engines of sustainability to collectively propel global development.\nSabina Shelby\, President of the Peru Opportunity Fund\nSabina will address innovative development practices and the components necessary for truly sustainable development initiatives\, including: market-driven focus\, access to sound financial services\, and a steadfast “do no harm” environmental policy.\nJay Bruns\, Corporate Environmental Expert & former career diplomat in the US Foreign Service\nInformed by 25 years as an American diplomat and service in the White House as director for International Economic Affairs in the National Security Council\, Jay will break down what the SDGs and the upcoming Paris Climate Talks mean for US businesses and the US government itself. He will examine such questions as: What does the US stand to gain or lose from the Paris Climate Talks? And why are some US business sectors at the forefront of the fight against climate change? \nWe look forward to seeing you there and for a nuanced discussion of our sustainable future!
